Speak
The book "Speak" talks about a girl being raped. It also shows how it ruins her. It leaves her lost inside herself, ashamed of what's not even her own fault. Could you imagine living your life knowing that this tragedy has happened? Not being brave enough to tell someone or get help? Melinda creates a tree in her art class that expresses her feelings about the rape. That is a huge symbol in this story.
To begin with the book "Speak" is a tragedy. It starts off in conflict where Melinda just got raped at a party. Then Melinda rises to power by calling the cops and trashing the party but does not tell the cops about the rape. Tragic Flaw when Melinda keeps running into IT, Andy, and bringing back memories…. The Tragic Fall she is scared and feels alone because no one knows about the rape. Lastly Ends in Death or Loss… It does not end in a death or loss. When Melinda Drew her tree and started crying. Her tree symbolizes how she feels about the rape. In the story Melinda is scared and lost inside herself… I could not imagine living my life knowing that this tragedy has happened. I to would be ashamed of this if it had happened to me. I would be scared to fall asleep at night. I would have to tell someone. I just could not stand being in her shoes. I would be crushed inside if I was.
There are many symbols throughout this story. One of the main symbols that I had found important is the tree she had made in art class.. This tree represents her feelings. How she felt about the rape. It shows that although she was sad and scared she still made it through… Her art teacher gave her an A on her tree… The book didn’t end in a loss or death. It ended with an A on her tree.

“Pies, Pies and More Pies”
Apple, Cheery , chocolate and more. The pies marched out the pastry door. For every pie that the chef has made, the smile grows upon his face. Customers after customers pile in, just to see the pies today.
There are new ones every week, for the chef has more up his sleeve. Then that day has sadly come when the new pastry shop was built down the block.
Wayne Thiebaud is an American painter whose most famous works of art are on cakes, pastries, toys and lipsticks. This painting is one of his cakes. Called “Refrigerator Pies.” Wayne was born on November 15 in Mesa, Arizona. I chose this art piece because it really caught my eye. I was curious what the painting was about… I got interested and knew that this was the piece I want to write about.
